Dental Implants

Dr. Randy Gordon has received extensive training in surgical implantology. Through continuing education, Dr. Gordon is abreast of the most current information on implant dentistry.

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth which look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants themselves are small titanium posts which are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth.

For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves a single surgical procedure. The implants are placed within your jawbone and allowed to heal for anywhere from 3-6 months. During this healing period, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums gradually bonding with the jawbone. During this time, you should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet.  Once the implants have fully integrated into the jawbone, your dentist will then take impressions to begin fabricating the final restorations.

Additional surgical procedures may be indicated depending on the condition of the jawbone where the implant is to be placed.  In these cases, Dr. Gordon utilize advanced bone grafting techniques to prepare the jawbone for implant placement.  At your initial consultation, Dr. Gordon will determine if bone grafting is needed and discuss the procedures involved.  He will also take time to answer any questions you may have regarding dental implant therapy.
